At Mountain Community Schools, teaching is more than a job. It is a chance to be part of something intentional — a school community built around real relationships, meaningful learning, and a genuine belief in what students are capable of. Whether you are drawn to our brick-and-mortar campus in the mountains of Hendersonville or to the flexibility of our statewide virtual school, you will find a team that is thoughtful, dedicated, and deeply committed to doing right by kids.

A school that knows its people.

We are a small organization by design. That means every staff member is known, supported, and valued — not just as a professional, but as a person. Our team culture is close-knit, collaborative, and grounded in the same values we bring to our students.

Work that feels meaningful.

Our schools are built around experiential, relationship-driven learning. If you believe that education should be active, purposeful, and connected to the real world, you will feel at home here. We give our educators the autonomy to teach creatively and the support to do it well.

A calendar built for sustainability.

TMCS operates on a year-round model that replaces the traditional long summer break with a more balanced rhythm — nine weeks on, two weeks off, with a two-week fall break and a two-week spring break. Many of our staff find this structure more sustainable and restorative than a traditional calendar.
MCOS staff enjoy additional flexibility as remote employees, with a schedule designed to support work-life balance while maintaining strong student outcomes.

Competitive benefits.

TMCS positions include enrollment in the NC State Retirement System, health insurance, and NCFlex Ancillary Insurance options. MCOS positions include comparable benefits with the added flexibility of remote work.

A community that supports you.

Our families are partners. Parent involvement is high, school culture is strong, and the community around us — in Hendersonville and across North Carolina — is one that genuinely values what we are building.
