Legal Compliance
Mountain Community Schools and its schools — The Mountain Community School and Mountain Community Online School — comply with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, including those governing employment, civil rights, disabilities, children with special needs, and student records. This includes but is not limited to the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment.
Non-Discrimination Policy
Mountain Community Schools does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, religion, or age in its admissions policies, educational programs, or employment practices. Both The Mountain Community School and Mountain Community Online School are public charter schools open to any student who is qualified under the laws of North Carolina for admission to a public school. Any child eligible for enrollment in a North Carolina public school is eligible to apply to either school, subject to available capacity and applicable lottery procedures.

Exceptional Children / IDEA
Mountain Community Schools provides services to students with disabilities in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Both schools are committed to identifying, evaluating, and serving students who may be eligible for exceptional children services, and to providing a free and appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment.

McKinney-Vento Act
Mountain Community Schools is committed to supporting students experiencing homelessness in accordance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. Students who are homeless have the right to immediate enrollment, transportation assistance, and other protections under federal law. Families in need of assistance should contact the school office directly at 828-696-8480.
School Accountability
Mountain Community Schools is accountable to the State of North Carolina through the State Board of Education and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, which monitors fiscal responsibility, student tracking, and academic achievement.
School performance data for The Mountain Community School is published annually by NC DPI. Report cards for the four most recent school years are linked below. Mountain Community Online School will appear in state reporting beginning with the 2026–27 school year.
